First Look: Skitch for iPad

Skitch is one of my favorite apps for Mac OS and Android. It's fantastic for adding annotations to screen shots, clearing up directions on maps, and making photos goofy. In the words of the developer it lets you, "Use shapes, arrows, sketches and text annotation to get your point across fast. Mark up photos, screenshots, maps, and webpages then share them with anyone you like." Thankfully, Skitch is now available for iPad. Here's a quick look at this fine app.

Meet Skitch.

For business and productivity purposes, Skitch for iPad is great for snapping screenshots of a web site or product and adding notes to them. Skitch images can be saved to Evernote, saved to your camera roll, sent via email, or posted as Tweets. There are all sorts of useful applications for this. Say I come across an interesting site on my iPad and it has a feature that I think Padvance should implement. I can snap a screen, add an arrow pointing to the feature, add a text note, and email it to my boss. For people that work in the online world, Skitch is incredibly useful.

Of course Skitch can be used for fun as well. You can snap a photo or take one from your gallery and import it into the app. From there you can add notes, draw mustaches and/or devil horns, etc.

Skitch's UI is very simple and straightforward. It's easy to select between the different tools and change colors. From there it's a matter of touching and typing. The iPad version doesn't offer the precision of the desktop version since you don't have the pixel-fine control of a mouse or a trackpad. The trade-off is that you're using the app on a mobile device and can easily access it wherever you are.

As I said in the intro, Skitch is one of my favorites on Mac OS and Android. The app is quickly becoming one of my favorites for iPad too. Check back next week for Padvance's full review of Skitch.
